A (late) Merry Christmas!

Howdy folks,
Thought I had uploaded this a few days ago, but apparently not.

Santa, cat, Christmas
Tired from knocking miniatures over, our Santa-Cat takes a brief Christmas nap :-)
Anyways, just wanted to wish you all a brilliant Christmas and all that!

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (VI)

Hello all,
So a succesful defence Monday now means that I can put a "Dr." in front of my name, which is cool, but what is even more important is that I should now have time to finish the delightful and alluring Blood Bowl team, the Fifty Shades of Purple!
Now there are only a few minis left to paint and the team is looking pretty swell - nicely colourful and I am amazed at how perfect the old Games Workshop Daemonettes are suitable for a BloodBowl team.

Limbsuck, Warptongue, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Todays charming ladies are mrs. Limbsuck & Fräu Warptongue. Again these names are brilliant, but one is a bit gruntled by the fact that Warptongue has no discernible tongue :-). She is actually one of the more individual of the daemonettes.

Limbsuck, Warptongue, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Mrs. Limbsuck, another brilliant name, is a more typical daemonette although they are all very charming ladies. I do think they could have been a bit more "alluring" and a bit less "disturbingly alien".
Anyways - stay tuned for the last few dames and their big lady, and then it is time for a few group shots!

All the best,
(Dr.) Kasper :-)

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (VI)

Hello all,
Two more of Games Workshops' old Daemonettes - this time the truly alien-like Lewdfang and the more 'normal' Heartvex:

Lewdfang, Heartvex, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Lewdfang is the most weird of the daemonettes and quite unique among the Games Workshop early versions. I fail to see how she could in any way be considered Alluring, but she was fun to paint. As the only one armed with a sword she looks a bit non-blood bowl-ish, but I guess she snuck a blade with her to make sure of penetrating dwarven armour.

Lewdfang, Heartvex, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Heartvex, on the other hand (or claw), is a more standard daemonette. But note her horse (ups, almost wrote hore's) leg and she starts to exude the weirdness and creativeness of Games Workshop as we knew and loved her.
Good, fun, interesting miniatures and a pleasure to paint.

All the best,
Kasper

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (V)

Hello all,
Two more Daemonettes join the Shades - my "count as" Dark Elf Blood Bowl team, described here.
This time it is the lovely Lustspite and her best friend, Lewdbeast

Lustspite, Lewdbeast, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Lustspite & Lewdbeast are both dressed in this season's "must-have" for any style-loving Daemonette - alluring turquoise leather stockings and bronze accessories.

Lustspite, Lewdbeast, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

What a lovely couple, despite the crappy photographing skills of the blog owner :-/.

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (IV)

Hello all,

Two more of Games Workshop old and delicious Daemonettes join the Shades - my "count as" Dark Elf Blood Bowl team, described here.

Suckflesh, Fiendthrob, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Although the pictures are quite crappy, you can just make out the pj on mrs. Suckflesh and Fiendthrob.

Suckflesh, Fiendthrob, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Suckflesh and Fiendthrob? There were some creative blokes at GW during the 90'ies!

Suckflesh, Fiendthrob, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Suckflesh will serve as a blitzer while Fiendthrob will do duty as a linelf or a thrower.

Easy bases for Blood Bowl

Hello all,
Some of you were curious as to how I make my bases for BloodBowl. Happy to oblige, I can reveal that I have, once again, found the simplest way possible to this...

My son has been attending courses in architecture for kids and, knowing that his dad is a sucker for anything and everything interesting, one day he brought home a few tattered remains of the sheets of grass the architects use for grass. This turned out to be perfect for basing 28mm miniatures - and makes the entire process incredible easy.

Step one.
Cut out appropriate circles of this wonder grass:

Blood, Bowl, Easy, bases, how to, Games, Workshop

Step two:
Glue these circles to the base. I use bases from Sally 4th with magnetic sheeting on one side. Cheap and easy to store afterwards.

Blood, Bowl, Easy, bases, how to, Games, Workshop

Step three:
Apply some details to the base - I've painted a thin white line to represent the chalk lines on the field and some splatters of blood here and there, using the wonderful Tamira blood.

Blood, Bowl, Easy, bases, how to, Games, Workshop

Step four:
Wait, there is no step four - the bases are already done! I do not think it can be done easier than this and the grass looks brilliant.
I've bought a large sheet of similar grass from a cheap Chinese store (through Aliexpress) and although a tad too bright the price is right (7$, including shipping).

Blood, Bowl, Easy, bases, how to, Games, Workshop

I hope some of you found this useful - let me know if there are any questions!

All the best,
Kasper

Daemonette Painting Queue

Hello all,
Busy, busy, busy painting Daemonettes - they are great fun and I thought I would show the painting queue at the moment. I'm aiming at as many shades of purple/pink as possible, but still trying to paint a few at the same time - this has produced what resembles a production line of purpleness:

Last few daemonettes and a Big Guy for the Fifty Shades of Purple

Hello all,
Managed to get a few daemonettes for cheap on the dreadful Ebay. I'm missing only one now - so if you do have a spare of the one known as "Gristlewhip" I would be happy to purchase it from you...

Daemonettes, Demonette, Fiend of, Slaanesh, demon, Games Workshop, ebay, blood bowl

Also managed to get a cheap Fiend of Slaanesh - perhaps the most chaotic thing ever produced by Games Workshop. I actually had to look it up online to figure out how to put its pieces together. Great fun!
She, he, it, whatever, will be used as a "big guy" for the Blood Bowl team until I can find something better.

Daemonettes, Demonette, Fiend of, Slaanesh, demon, Games Workshop, ebay, blood bowl

After a wee bit of green stuff it was ready to paint - I've always wanted to paint one of these, but didn't have the money to buy one when they were first released.

Daemonettes, Demonette, Fiend of, Slaanesh, demon, Games Workshop, ebay, blood bowl

Would have preferred the one with a scorpion tail, but this ones sinister daemonic tail-face has grown on me.

Daemonettes, Demonette, Fiend of, Slaanesh, demon, Games Workshop, ebay, blood bowl

It has snuck into the painting queue and is almost finished alread - despite arriving yesterday in the mail :-).

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (III)

Hello all,
The first group shot of the 'babes', the rockhard Daemonettes who have brought a whole new level of alluring and enticing gameplay to the fair game of Blood Bowl:

Heartvex, Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, Sinwhip, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Heartvex, Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, and Sinwhip - what lovely names! - in their various shades of purple.

Heartvex, Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, Sinwhip, Daemonette, Demonette, Warhammer, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

The majority of the rest of the team have been painted and are just waiting for some fair weather to be photographed in. I hope someone, anyone?, out there likes these daemonic blood bowlers - I'm quite satified with how they turned out but a lot of the blending disappears in these shots.

All the best,
Kasper

Blood Bowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (II)

Hello all,
Two more Daemonettes join the Shades - my "count as" Dark Elf Blood Bowl team, described here.

Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, Daemonette, Demonette, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Lipspittle - the slightly alien like daemonette (not sure how "alluring" I find her...) will count as a thrower or catcher, depending on team. Lewdbeast - sporting a typical Games Workshop 1980s mohawk - will be the first of my Witch Elves or Blitzers depending on what I need to field.

Lipspittle, Lewdbeast, Daemonette, Demonette, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Lipspittle and Lewdbeast - you gotta love those names. As with the previous members of this team each have been painted in its own shade of purple / pink (although these two appear almost identical due my crappy camera skills). They were a pleasure to paint now that I've managed to figure out a quicker way and have settled on the colours.

All the best,
Kasper

BloodBowl Daemonettes: The Fifty Shades of Purple (I)

Hello all,
As I related some time ago, my son discovered the joy of Bloodbowl a few months ago and as I've always considered it one of the best boardgames ever made I was eager to get into it again. We began with some simple and easy "bashing" teams (Orcs and Dwarfs) just to get familiar with the rules, but I've always had a thing for the more daring teams of Skaven and Dark Elves. Back when I used to play in competitions the Skaven would always be my favourite team, but in the recent Blood Bowl computer game I would generally play as Dark Elves - great team that can do the impossible at times but can also deal out some damage. Unfortunately, the minis for Dark Elves suck. Both Games Workshop and the more recent bloodbowl producing miniature companies have never really made a team that represents how I've envisioned the dastardly elves.
So while I wanted a Dark Elf team I had no models in mind. Until, that is, I rediscovered my old box of unused and forgotten miniatures (as described here). Now, amongst the treasures was nine of the old Daemonettes of Slaanesh - and it struck me that these would be perfect for at Dark Elf team. And so the hitherto unknown Fifty Shades of Purple was born.
I've since discovered that pink and purple are difficult colours to paint, shade, and blend and the first few minis took way longer than they should have.
But, nonetheless, it is with great pride that I can now present the first two Daemonettes, Heartvex and Sinwhip:

Heartvex, Sinwhip, Daemonette, Demonette, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

Both have been fun to paint (although time consuming as I had to develop a paint scheme quite different from my usual colours) as the miniatures are simply great. Well, not the sculpt in all parts, but they are, as most of the old miniatures, full of character.

These will, initially count as simple Dark Elf Linemen but I hope the team, once finished, will be able to stand in for most of the "light" teams, i.e. Humans, Amazons, other pansy Elves, etc.

Heartvex, Sinwhip, Daemonette, Demonette, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

I've since completed (almost) the entire range of Daemonettes (well there is only thirteen of them) and will post on the history of the Daemonette models from Games Workshop soon, but for this team the "normal" daemonettes will be lineelfs, the ones with hair will serve as Witch Elves, and the more spooky and alien like Daemonettes will be throwers. Should be fun :-).
The rest of the finished models will be up soon(ish).

Heartvex, Sinwhip, Daemonette, Demonette, Games Workshop, Blood Bowl, Bloodbowl, painted, Dark Elf, Elves, fifty shades, purple, alluring

The two alluring ladies, Heartvex and Sinwhip, both really hope you like their new colours - otherwise they might pay you a disturbing visit soon!

All the best,
Kasper

My dissertation was accepted for defence!

Hello all,
I know I've often complained about work and how it has delayed the much more important aspect of life (painting miniatures), and some of you have been kind enough to ask and lament along with me but today I finally got word that my dissertation has been approved for defence and with the following (for the scholarly world) praise:
"Conclusion
The work undoubtedly represents a significant advancement of our understanding of the figure, leading international research on this complex and multifaceted tradition in a new promising direction. The assessment of the work in general is positive, and the committee is in no doubt that the work is well qualified for being accepted for defence."

I am pretty darn happy - seems the professors did not consider my four years of hard labour completely wasted :-).
Just wanted to share the news with you and explain how and why there might be a lot more painted figures and battle reports coming shortly :-)
All the best,
Kasper

Wuhuu: 100.000 hits and 300 posts!

Hello all,
Unbeknownst to me, this old blog turned a significant corner a few days ago: 100.000 hits and more than 300 posts. I would thus like to thank you all for stopping by, following and commenting on my random musings.
What began as a place to remember our Warmaster Historical battles has turned into a weird mixture of 10mm Warmaster, 28mm Zombicide and more or less random posts on Blood Bowl, Heroquest and Girls in Mail Bikinies (always a crowd favourite :-)). I'm glad that so many have taken the time to read these half thought out ideas and thoughts.

Meeeow?
As my two kittens (Tosca and Ninja) so eloquently puts it, I'm really happy to have discovered the great blogosphere and its marvelous resources but also to have a place to "immortalize" our games and my average paintjobs - and without your comments and visits it would have died out a long time ago - so, once again, thanks for visiting!

In the very near future I'll be showing the first finished members of my new Daemonette Blood Bowl team (which will serve as a Count-As team for Amazons, Humans, Chaos, etc.) - expect great purpleness with pinkish overtones :-).

Until then, thanks!

All the best,
Kasper

Little Lunatic: Goblin Fanatic

Hello all,
One of the oldish models I found in my forgotten box of minis was this sweet little Goblin Fanatic. How could anyone resist painting such an adoring face?

Blood bowl, Games Workshop, Old, Goblin, Fanatic

Still a great sculpt and it was very fun to paint - a quick paintjob and he is ready for the Blood Bowl pitch.

Blood bowl, Games Workshop, Old, Goblin, Fanatic
Didn't want him too dark, and thus resisted the classic Night Goblin paint scheme.

Old One-Arm - Mr. Mummy a Blood Bowl player extraordinaire

Hello all,

Well, it was a fun paint job - the old Games Workshop mummy that had lost an arm and a leg. The boot made out of play-doh and instant glue turned out all right (even though it broke apart when I transferred him to a new base).

Blood, Bowl, Games, Workshop, Mummy,

Even though I still havn't figured out what I'm going to do about his missing arm he still looks pretty imposing :-).

Blood, Bowl, Games, Workshop, Mummy,

Great sculpt and another player is ready for the Blood Bowl pitch!

A new fouling-boot for Mr. Mummy

Hello all,
Among my big box of old minis I happened upon an old mummy Blood Bowl player. We all know how easy mummies are to paint so I figured this would be a fun mini to start with. Unfortunately, it turns out that I, somewhere fifteen-twenty years ago urgently needed a mummy foot. And a mummy arm.
I have no idea for what, but Mr. Mummy has had to live with the consequences ever since. No doubt bullied by the other, more complete, unpainted miniatures.

So, I've made him a new boot from Play-Doh and superglue, as I have no fancy green-stuff available...
I hope it will look alright once the paint and blood has done their bit to camouflage the injury and crappy 60-second repair job:

Mummy, Games, Workshop, Blood Bowl, Conversion, clay-do, Play-doh

Not sure what to do about the arm. for some reason I'm inclined to make a tentacle for him. In the end I couldn't make up my mind and have decided to leave it be (a casualty of some Big Guy) and see what turns up in the bits box.

Help - Consortium Universe Miniatures and their "Daemonette"?

Hello all,
While trawling the Net for Daemonettes, I happened upon this miniature:

Daemonette, alternative, Realm of Chaos, Consortium, Universe, Quimera

The brilliant paintjob is by Giraldez, and is a fine "tribute" to the Classic Realm of Chaos Daemonettes.

Unfortunately I can find little information on the miniature (for some reason called a Quimera),
nor the company which produced it, Consortium Univers.
If you happen to know who sells this mini today or whatever happened to Consortium,
I would love to know.

All the best,
Kasper

Orctober IIIa: Prince August 25mm Goblin

Hello all,
In the big ol' pile of lead-box, was a small Goblin that was begging to be painted. Not a brilliant sculpt by any measure, it was a quick mini to paint and the stone club was fun.
Anyone know who manufactured this goblin? I was surprised at the speed with which you guys managed to identify my mystery dwarfs, so I'm hoping someone might have the information on this little stone age goblin.
It is probably from the late eighties, but apart from that I have no idea. The sculpt is bad, very few details and most had to be painted on. Looks a bit like a "home-made" miniature?

EDIT: Thanks to the help of Leif Ericsson, this mini turns out to be a homemade sculpt from one of Prince August's sculpts; the 25mm Goblin mold. The interesting thing is that I have painted it in almost the exact same colours - some 25 years after :-).
I still have no recollection of purchasing the mini - but I seem to recall there was a chap at my local gaming club who molded his own, so perhaps he was kind enough to give me one?

Goblin, painted, mystery, stone club, Pricne, August, Mold, Goblin
But it painted up al right and was a fun little exercise :-)

October III: Two more Heroquest orcs

Hello all,
While my sons were painting their orcs, I managed to grab a few for myself and decided to experiment a bit with alternative skin colours. I've recently seen some spiffing yellow orcs and wanted to try this out.
The results were ok - paint wise it worked, I think, but they have lost that iconic orciness. But for fifteen minutes of actual painting time per mini, I'm pretty satisfied with the two (who must eb brothers, right?).
Anyways, allow me to introduce my own mr. yellow and his best friend mr. pale:

Orc, Heroquest, paint, yellow, skin, orctober

The chap on the left was painted with a mix of half yellow and half Vallejo flesh, while the other was given a pure Vallejo flesh base (using this easy painting skin guide).

All the best,
Kasper

Orctober IIa: Tzeentchian Orc and a Daemonette Blood Bowl team?

Hello folks,
As I recently rediscovered nine old daemonettes, I've been wondering how to go about painting them once they leave the paintstripperjar. I have in mind to paint them as linemen for a not-Dark Elf Blood Bowl team and supplement them with some of the more recent daemonettes as Witch Elves and blitzers.
So, this unfortunate Hero Quest Orc had to serve as a test for the paint scheme. The horror - a pinkish orc:

Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint

Anyways, although the pictures does not really show it, I think this is one of the best minis I've ever painted, especially considering the model :-). I think the colour scheme (stolen or inspired by James Wappel's excellent daemonettes) will work fine for the daemonettes. Now I only need to find a suitable team clothing colour scheme...
More pictures for further reference - for some reason they have a greenish tone, must get a better lightbulb :-):

Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint

Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint

Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint

Heroquest, orc, pink, purple, tzeentch, Blood Bowl, paint

Anyways, thanks for reading - if you found the post interesting then any comments, questions, or tips (commercial clicks :-)) are greatly appreciated!
Until the next time; stay safe and prepare to slaughter Zombies!
All the best,
Kasper
