Fenris Games Goatkin - Ernie and Vic - Beastmen 5

Hello all,
last two of the Fenris Goatkin - the Goatkin Warrior Ernie and the Goatkin Scout Vic.

Some very nice details on all these goatkin - I really recommend them to anyone looking for some savage beastmen - the ones that haven't got the military training to form ranks but function as a pack or warband.

I also think they would be perfect for roleplaying - both as bad guys and as one-off characters.

Fenris Games Goatkin - Perky and George - Beastmen 4

Hello all,
The next two beasties from Fenris Games: a second version of Perky, this time more pink, and the Goatkin Shaman, called George... A truly shamanistic and terrible name :-).

George, the Shaman, is a fun mini - could have done with a bit more attention to the feathers. Might go back and redo them a bit.

Gotta love that left arm on Thumper - bloody massive fist :-).

Fenris Games Goatkin - Rocky and Mildred - Beastmen 2

Hello all,
Next couple of Goatkin (or Beastmen) from Fenris Games - this time it is the two whom I see as the leaders - the Goatkin Brute, Rocky, and the Goatkin Witch, Mildred

I have no idea where Rocky got that bone, but it must have been quite a fight. He has been nicknamed Rocky Bullboar :-).

Mildred looks to be a right little cunning and nasty matriarch.

Fenris Games Goatkin - Bob and Pinky - Beastmen 1

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all!
So, little time for posting but as I have a ton of images ready for upload I'm just going to go ahead and post them with little text - hope that is okay :-).

The first group is the beastmen from Fenris. Some have been shown before, but as the warband is now finished and all have been rebased on the beautiful bases from Fenris, I think I'll go ahead and re-show the old with the new.

First up is a 'backwards-forwards' goatkin called Bob, and a tentacled goatkin named Pinky (yes, they still have ridiculous names, I'm afraid :-)):

Beastie Boys group hug - Beastmen from Games Workshop, Fenris, Harlequin and Runequest

Hello all,
Life has been weird which has kept me from blogging (and painting, and gaming) recently. In order to keep this blog from withering and dying, I figured I would post some pictures of the Beastmen, Goatkin and related beastial boys I've painted the last few months.

They are all part of Arkward, the Slaaneshi Minotaur's Warband, which has turned into something of a Zoo.

From the left we have the two old Runequest Scorpionmen I saved (and Slaaneshified), two old C48 Citadel Gargoyles (Gotalot and Zheted), an old Beastman from Citadel, a crossbow-wielding beastman from Harlequin.

In the center is Arkward (Citadel), flanked by a soon-to-be-enlarged pack of wild Goatkin from Fenris Games.

I think they look like they all fit together - despite hailing from four different companies and some thirty years difference from the oldest to the youngest.

Anyways, thanks for stopping by - hopefully I'll get back to painting and/or gaming soon!

Beastmen Comparison: Fenris - Games Workshop - Harlequin

Hello all,
Just back from Vienna and almost heading out to the airport again to catch a plane to the states, so only a brief post today - a comparison between the various beastmen I've painted the last months. Someone might find this useful.

from left to right we have a Crossbow-wielding Harlequin beastman, a brutish Goatkin from Fenris Games, an old Games Workshop Beastman, and finally another Goatkin from Fenris games.
As is obvious, they all mix fairly well and only the crossbow seems a bit out of place.

Mutated Beastmen from Fenris - Rocky Bullboar!

“Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give... it's about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward.”

So the last of the brilliant tribal beastmen models from Fenris is Rocky (hence the quote above :-)), this massive brute:

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it."

Clearly the leader of the pack, he stands as tall as a minotaur (well, one of the old Citadel ones, at least) and appears ready to take on anyone and anything.

Brandishing a massive bone (giant's leg bone?) he fits well into the tribal feel of the Goatkin - no armour and just a massive club. How much more tribal does it get?

As with the other beastmen, he is, as you can see above, anatiomically correctly sculpted and I must say I appreciate this. Anything else would be weird. He was also a pleasure to paint - clean sculpt, great details and no bazillion skulls all over the place or weird feathers and stuff. Just a beastmen ready to crush his opponents.

Loved painting these minis from Fenris Games, and had to order a few more to fill out the ranks. Hope you've liked these beasts, I really recommend them. Much better than anything else on the market today and a good match for the old citadel miniatures in regards to character.

Mutated Beastmen from Fenris - Perky and Vic - Oldhammer Beastmen

As this is 'Conference-season', life is a bit busy. But luckily I've got a few painted miniatures that I've not yet uploaded. The two below were bought alongside Bob and Thumper (such stupid names) and have been baptised as Perky and Vic (almost as stupid names :-)) by Fenris Games. Perky is a Goatkin Warrior while Vic is a Goatkin Scout. Quite appropriately, Perky is a brutish beastman with more than a hint of a warthog, while Vic is a graceful antelope mixture.

I tried to exaggerate Perky's piggish origin by giving him a more pinkish colour scheme. He carries a sickle and no armour - emphasizing the tribal feel these beastmen, or Goatkin, by Fenris all have.

Vic, on the other hand, seemed to demand a light paint scheme. I choose a very white which looks alright, although on hindsight behaps the pale colour might not be suitable for a scout? She carries a small dagger and a light club and, again, no armour.

Here is Perky's privates - love the realism and scuplting skill put into these beasts.

As with Bob and Thumper, these are an absolute pleasure to paint. I would really like to paint the entire Fenris Goatkin range. And as for their use, while I probably will never get to use them, they do seem absoolutely perfect for a small Beastman warband - a retinue for a Chaos Champion, a small unit for Warhammer or anything similar. Full of character!

Mutated Beastmen from Fenris Games - Thumper and Bob (sic!) - Oldhammer perfect

A while back I noticed some of the beastmen (or Goatkin, as they call them) being produced by Fenris Games. And they looked brilliant. Then I happened upon a couple of them going cheap(ish) on Ebay and snatched them. 

And I'm really happy I did so. 

On the same day they arrived in the post, I couldn't stop painting them. They are brilliant sculpts, great details and fun mutations. And no un-needed details here - just plain simple savage tribal-beastmen. Most of them have some kind of mutation, straight out of a Realm of Chaos book, and all of them have great individuality.

The first to be reviewed here are these two chaps, one with a very large left arm, and one whose entire lower body has been twisted 180 degrees. So, yes that is his tail that he is fiddling with...

The beast on the left goes by the official designation of FGGK11 Goatkin brawler "Thumper" and costs £3.50. Thumper is a better name than some of the goatkin have been given, but still... 

Sculpted by a Snuurg, who I don't know but I like his style!

The confusing being on the right is Bob. Yes, they named him Bob. Oh dear. Mr. FGGK12 Goatkin warrior "Bob". Perhaps the crappiest name ever imagined - especially compared to how brilliant this beastman is. Again, sculpted by Snuurg.

Also notice the sheer size of Thumper's fist. Who needs a weapon with mutations like that?

Both beasts were painted to fit into the Slaaneshi Warband led by Akward, the Minotaur, hence the purplish horns, hooves, etc.

In summary, these are wonderful sculpts. Anyone looking for beatmen for a Realm of Chaos Warband, a wild unit for his or her's beastman army,e tc, should really consider these. Great size, great details, and a pleasure to paint!

Tribal Beastmen from Fenris Miniatures (on sale for -20% now!)

The last of my spring ebay-shopping spree included a nice selection of Fenris miniature (who, I just noticed, is having a sale with 20% discount on everything, including this range).
The Fenris Beastmen fit very well with the older Citadel beasties, but have a much crispier finish and are very well sculpted. Indeed Fenris is becoming one of my favourite companies for fantasy.
The first three is an inverted beastman (his lower body is turned 180 degrees, so that is his tail he is holding), a female gazelle like beastman, and a huge brute whose left side is twice as big as his right. A massive fist!

The following two are a small warthoggish beastman, armed with a sickle, and the natural leader of the pack, a huge brute, carrying a large bone around for clubbing humans.

Just to show the size of the leader, here he is next to an old Citadel Minotaur. A very imposing creature.

These beasts appear to be a nice alternative for beastmen of the more rural, tribal type. Their weapons are unsophisticated and primitive and they have little clothing and no armour.

They are super sharp sculpts, little clean-up needed, and the type of minis that you cannot wait to paint. Highly recommended if you spot them cheaply on Ebay.
