Siege Ram from Irregular Miniatures

Another siege piece from Irregular Miniatures - this time their 6mm Siege Ram priced at about 50p.
A nice little piece without any miscasts (the only mistake was my own in not filing the ramshead sharper but I didnt notice its bent head before taking these photos - maybe its been in use several tiems before?).

 

 

All in all a nice little mini - wonder if we will ever get to fight a siege? Anyways, best regards

Siege Tower from Irregular Miniatures

Howdy!

Well I had a few spare moments last friday so decided to take a few snapshots of some recently completed minis. The first is a Siege Tower in 6mm from Irregular Miniatures priced at around 1£.

It is a pretty thing but with very few details other than the included ram (but what details could have been sculpted I dont know :-)) and in the back there are a few ladders and the like.

It paints up incredible fast and easy - I tried to use a leathery brown for the hides and pure metal for the head to make it stand out a bit.

Few miscasted details on this one by the way  (as was not the case for the Trebuchet) only one which is one the side visible on  the photoes below while the rams head is marred by a nasty line from the casting I guess.

I must say I'm happy with the models from Irregular Miniatures - especially considering their price. As they are for sieges - which rarely happen - I like the fact that for 5£ you can buy all the siege equipment you need.

  

This also marks the first really satisfying useof the Photo-studio. I bought a new lamp which seems perfect for both painting and apparently photographing. It is the Ikea lamp called Global - both cheap (~10£) and comes with a bulb that spreads the light evenly, is very white and bright. I painted a bit under it last evening and it was a pleasure - the best I have ever tried. I fully recommend it.

DIY scaling ladders

Hello, in the hope that we will some day get to fight a siege - the holy grail of all gamers - I had been pondering how to make cheap scaling ladders (me being too scroungy with my money to actually buy some..).
And a possible solution struck me while we were moving stuff around the other day as I found some leftover material that I had refused to throw out in the hopes of being able to use it one day. The material is used for strenghthening walls before finishing them with glasfelt (which is a direct translation from the Danish word as I was unable to find an equivalent) and is available in all (Danish) toolshops and DIY for next to nothing.

When cut to the right size and after a quick brown paintjob they do look like scaling ladders and one can do a dozen in as many minutes.

Anyways, they'll suit our purposes nicely and now there's one thing less on the list of to-dos before a siege is possible.

Unfortunately they don't resemble this example of a "high"-tech medieval Chinese example of a scaling ladder:

Siege Equipment part II

As promised in honour of the first comment on this (new) blog here are a couple of pictures with the siege equipment from Irregular Miniatures line of 6mm stuff. As it is cheap and well sculpted I choose that line and 6mm even though my minis are 10mm as it wont be many sieges I get to fight and as the larger stuff seems a bit overdimensioned.
But anyway; with Games Workshop infantry (ca. 9mm) and Kallistra infantry (ca. 12mm):

Especially the ram seems small but not to any infuriatingly way and I'm still happy with them.

Siege Equipment

Hello all! well in preparation for our (hopefully) forthcoming try at a siege using the rules in Warmaster I've completed a siege tower and a battering ram. Both are 6mm and from Irregular Miniatures and while a bit small for our 10mm they are dirt cheap and very well sculpted. The only problem was the siege tower which had fairly irritating sculptlines running down each side, ruining the sides a wee bit. Otherwise they are yet another example of the quality of Irregular Miniatures and the total cost is somewhere below 3£ which is unbeatable :-). The siege tower is mounted on a 30x40 base being just a bit too wide to fit on my normal 20x40 bases.
