Sexy Amazons Army - the most Sexy Pin-Up style Amazons Army?!?

Hello all,
So while trawling Kickstarter and Indiegogo and wondering just how many BloodBowl teams can get funded at the same time (answer: lots!), I stumbled upon something that made me laugh. And giggle a lot!

Now, don't get me wrong, I like well proportioned female minis and find them a pleasure to paint, but this project on Indiegogo just seems like a joke.

So - without discussing the dangers of giving a ton of money to company which (as far as I can determine) has never really produced miniatures at a large scale nor presents a single example of the minis they wish to get funding for - their drawings seem to have transcended "sexy", even "sexy pin-up style", and entered the realm of the pornographic jokes.
Judge for yourself:

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
Poledancing is a viable combat technique
And another, even better equipped, amazon:

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
"Must dance for the enemy"
Now, I know women have often been given less than sensible armour to cater to the male players, but the strips of leather (latex?) on these makes me giggle.

Indiegogo, Sexy, Amazon, army, poledancing, stripper, pin-up
More concepts - the one in the middle is the "best" so far...

Anyways, I agree there needs to be something sexy about an Amazon army, but this is just silly and I can't imagine the level of sillyness an entire army of these poledancing warriors would present.
Anyone wishing to buy these "ladies" can go here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sexy-amazons-army-miniforge--2...

I ddon't really think "the most Sexy Pin-Up style Amazons Army" will ever get funded, but who knows and I respect them for their efforts, the concept is just a bit (no, a lot) too far from good taste for me.

All the best,
Kasper

  1. I just reported that campaign to IndieGoGo as offensive and sexist. I wonder if they will do anything about it.

    1. Hi Leif - your action has me somewhat puzzled. I guess I (and my wife) saw it as a merely bad taste and crappy execution, not offensive. Or at least, no more offensive than the usual barbarian muscle-brute is 'offensive' to men. Anyways, I guess it never hurts to let Indiegogo make the decision about what they want on their site. It is still up, so I guess it was deemed non-sexist or perhaps they are just as confused about that campaign as I am :-).

    2. Well... I was a bit unsure but in the end I decided to not let it slip. You know there's a saying about sexism that it permeates our society so much that you don't notice it. Like the matrix, you don't realise you are in the matrix when you are in the matrix.

And yes, I like pretty pictures or sculptures of the female form as much as many other males, but I on the other hand also recognise the problem with displaying the female form just as eye-candy.

And these are just that. Eye-candy, a poor excuse to sculpt some scantily clad women under the pretense it's for a wargame. Let's try and lift the miniature wargames hobby out of the gutter, people. How are we ever going to get away from the image of the wargamer as an overweight virgin male nerd playing with sexy toy soldiers if we don't react over this kind of crap?

I found it extra offensive and ironic that IndieGoGo had placed their banner for the international womens day at the top of the page. It sends the message that they really do not care. I have recieved the usual non-comitting bullshit response from IndieGoGo, so I guess they won't be doing anything about it.

anyway, that's me off the soap box for now :-)

    3. Well put, Leif. I don't disagree with your points, only whether or not this particular campaign crossed the line. But I also noticed the "womens week" banner above these problematic women and found the convergence weird. Anyways, it doesn't look like Indiegogo has taken any action, yet, but on the other hand the campaign has only raised 125$ in six days. I believe those who would even contemplate buying these minis may have been put of by the fact that the company appears to have only ever produced a single mini and have failed to even show a render or green.
Anyways, you are always welcomed to the soap box here at "chéz Kasper"!
      All the best,
      Kasper
